The Plant Food and Agricultural Innovation Center

Driving innovation in agriculture, food systems, and climate resilience.

The Plant Food and Agriculture Innovation Center is set to transform California’s Capital Region into a global hub for agrifood innovation, job creation, and sustainable economic growth. Led by UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR) and a coalition of industry, academic, and community partners, The Plant will accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge food and agricultural technologies, support entrepreneurs, engage local communities and create thousands of high-quality jobs. With state-of-the-art commercialization facilities including greenhouses, biomanufacturing facilities, and food innovation labs, it will drive advancements in the future of healthy food and resilient agriculture while ensuring that communities across the Capital Region benefit from new economic opportunities. By fostering collaboration between food manufacturers, farmers, retailers, scientists, culinary and technology leaders, The Plant will establish the Capital Region as a national and global leader in the future food economy. The Catalyst Pre-Development project will fund critical pre-construction, operations planning, and partnership development activities for the project over the coming year.
